    Matt-
Thanks for commenting on the email problems with Verizon. I thought I was the only one who had the problem. It was extremely distressing when on 2 Friday’s I couldn’t open up the email ( on my iphone) for addresses! I have since started taking screen shots and used those to find the sales!

We’re just so glad it’s been resolved, Ms. Baxter! 🙂

See you Friday in The Village?

      Best regards,
      Matt

The statement you made about guidelines on signs in The Village were totalt out of line. You sound like a snob and do it my way or the highway. Won’t be going to the sales because of the comments you made. Shame on you.

      Dear Ma’am:

I’m sorry if we gave offense or came off as snobbish in our comments about The Village’s signage policy, but I’d really like you to understand why I said what I said on the website.

For years now, the city of The Village has insisted upon treating professionally conducted estate sales as though they were mere garage sales.

We professional estate liquidators have never been allowed to use our expensive, professionally made signs in The Village, and have been forced to use small plastic garage sale signs instead there. The signs in question are a) difficult to see and b) misleading.

We — unlike garage sale proprietors, the vast majority of whom routinely disobey the law — bring thousands of dollars tax revenue into The Village, as well as in every other municipality in which we work. Whether we like having to collect and remit sales taxes or not, folks often forget that our cities run largely on a mixture of sales taxes and property taxes. Like it or not, this is an issue of great importance.

Professional estate liquidators also pay close attention to traffic patterns and parking through both our on-site police officers and their ability to watch from the front and call in violations as necessary.

We don’t run “garage sales,” Ma’am, nor have we ever, and have been asking The Village’s City Council for YEARS now to change its demeaning and distinctly anti-business policy vis-a-vis signage.

I’ve heard from two city councilmen in The Village in the last two days, and it seems as though they’re finally going to introduce a measure to differentiate between professionally conducted estate liquidations and, well, commonplace and often ill-run garage sales.

I’ve talked to Jody Kerr and other colleagues in the area about this subject, and they are in agreement with me one hundred percent — they, too, wish to see the current municipal code in The Village changed. (As things stand, our customers often have difficulty finding us without our large and colorful signage.)

Jody has approached Village leaders in the past, but to no avail.

I hope that my current efforts to get my customers to contact the City Council, though, will finally have the intended effect.

Again, I’m sorry if I came off as snobbish in my comments, or gave offense in any way.

I was very upset earlier this week, and may have been a touch strident when I placed information about our efforts to change municipal code when I created that placard and placed it on EdmondEstateSales.com.

We’ve had similar issues with onerous and absurdly written signage policies in Harrah, Del City, Moore, and Midwest City — all make it very, very difficult for professional estate liquidators to conduct business in a professional manner and (thus) make them, the municipalities in question, more sales tax revenue in the process. (It simply makes no sense!)

We are businesspeople, Ma’am, and we work very hard to make a living, that’s all.

I don’t believe that we, the folks who bring tax revenue while others flout Oklahoma law, should be hobbled by a municipal code that’s been tailored only to those who conduct (!) garage sales. Ijust not right and it’s just not fair, and I intend to continue to ask others to help me change the current code about estate sale signage in The Village.

Yours is the only complaint we’ve received about the placard; I’ve had at least twenty other customers (as well as three different liquidators) call or write thanking me for trying to get this onerous code changed in The Village.

Whatever the case, I certainly didn’t mean to offend you, nor anyone else — I was simply trying to get citizens to act through the democratic process and help me get the current municipal code in The Village changed for the better.

I wish you well, and hope to continue to see you at our sales.

Feel free to call me if you’d like to discuss this matter further. I can be reached at (405) 820-2814 at any time of the day or night.

      Best regards,
      Matt McNeil, ISA CAPP
